Abstract
This course unit purposes to understand the key diplomatic and security issues on the Korean Peninsula and Northeast Asian region. The representative three East Asian states, China, Japan, and Korea, cover almost 30% of the whole global GDP, and the security condition of these countries centers on global peace and stability.
Most importantly, the Korean Peninsula is still divided and the ongoing Cold War condition of the Peninsula centers on the rivalry and instability of Northeast Asia. Member states of this region have different national interests and diplomatic positions regarding Korean unification. People in the region strongly believe that one unified Korean government on the Korean Peninsula is unthinkable without the cooperation of its neighboring states. This unit will discuss how to solve this problem

About the lecturer
Prof. Hwi Park is working as the associate professor of the Division of International Studies at Ewha Woman's University in Seoul, South Korea. He has been working there as a professor at the Department of International Studies since 2005. He graduated with a Ph.D. in International Politics at the Northwestern University in the United States in 1999. Professor Park is working and researching in the fields of international security, relations of Korea and the US as well as East Asian International Relations and Inter-Korean Relations.
